Kai has been working on an agentic restructure of AI features. These features turn the AI chat into an agent that can not only talk, but also do extra actions in QualCoder. - Read-only gives the AI agent read access to the complete code tree, all the memos and codings, as well as the empirical data through a diverse set of search tools (text only). - Sandboxed allows for limited write-access: The agent can create new codes and codings, but it cannot change or delete existing ones. - Full access gives additional write access to existing codes, codings, attributes, and cases – with precautions: Destructive operation must be confirmed by the user. Updates coming to the 4.0 version

As we are doing a lot of updates, then next version will jump form 3.8.2 to 4.0. We have no definite date for this release yet, as there are still a few changes to work through. As a core team of 4 developers and with additional functionality requests and occasional bugs uncovered we will take some time to work through getting ready for the next version. However, there are some very exciting changes coming changes. They are already available in the 4.0 “in development” code. The major data structure change is to allow codes to be sub-codes of codes, as shown below. The second change, visible in the image, is the option to select between the “highlighter” coding stripes on the text, to also have more coding visibility options: vertical stripes beside the text, and also to have coloured underlining of the text. ![](https://qualcoder.org/images/img1.png) These changes have also been tested with exports via the REFI-QDA export and subsequent import into Atlas.ti, MAXQDA, Nvivo, as shown below. Hello everyone, This is an early updated (patch) release to the 3.8 release. We recently identified bugs that may affect those who use the Auto-Code Exact Text feature (The left-most Auto-code button). The issues were selecting multiple files to auto-code, and the application of the Regex function. - Fixed: Auto-Code Exact Text using Regex, The Regex text itself was stored and presented in reports, and not the text that the Regex referred to. - Fixed: Auto-code when selecting multiple files the auto-code may not always scan through all the files. - Fixed: Other minor bugs described in the Known Issues for 3.8 were also addressed. - Fhere is one new feature. Hello all, We are pleased to announce an updated QualCoder, version 3.7 is now available. This includes a Window installer and applications for macOS. As well as the usual source code and install from source code instructions. My thanks to: Kai for updating the AI, other fixes and creating the executables; to Lorenzo for the Spanish updates and Joffre for the Swedish translation. The changes are detailed below, and on the releases page. Other languages --------------- Added translations for Swedish (verified), Chinese (unverified), Japanese (unverified). Improved Spanish translations. Artificial Intelligence ----------------------- - Improved robustness with AI models. - More AI models readily available for use. Attributes selection -------------------- - Attributes selection in reports. Where attribute settings are created, these can be saved and loaded for quicker subsequent use. Manage Files ------------ - Ctrl C, Ctrl V copy and paste into other table cells. - Save and load table display profiles (Hidden rows and columns and column widths based on like/equals/hide parameters). Manage Cases ------------ - Ctrl C, Ctrl V copy and paste into other table cells. All codings sections (pdf, text, A/V, image) -------------------------------------------- - More sort options for the codes tree - Show codes by colour range. This is another way to trim back the size of the codes tree. - There is now a *Find Code* button, either under the codes tree or in the header section. This is a convenient way to find matching code name text to help find a code in a large list of codes. It highlights the first matching text code name in the tree list codes. - All coding screens have a button to select a default colour for new codes, rather than defaulting to a randomly chosen colour. Code Text --------- - Added option to auto-code using Regex, via a checkbox. - Auto-code sentences -- now ask you which text files you want to apply this function to, once pressing the auto-code sentences button. Code Image ---------- - Added Zoom In, Zoom Out, Rotate and Captions buttons. - Added options for captions to coded image areas. - Added ability to image code PDF pages. - Added tooltip warning about exactly overlapping coded areas. Suggest that one of them is sightly resized or moved. Code Audio/Video ---------------- - Added a button to save a video frame as a png. - Added a button to import the video frame into the project. For image coding. Code PDF -------- - Added Zoom In, Zoom Out buttons. - Improved PDF image presentation (images, curves, lines, polygons -- good representation). Report Codes ------------ - Check box option to add a reference to the coded result. - On initial results text, right-click context menu on a reported item to add an additional code. View Graph ---------- Added arrow-head to the Add Line function. Code Co-occurrence table report ------------------------------- - Fixed error when selecting codes. The code counts did not display in correct columns and all the code names rather than the short list were shown. - Added option to select categories -- so codes of those categories are used in the table. There is a separate link for the Ubuntu executable, so those downloads are not listed below. However, it is hard to know how many people are just ‘kicking the tyres’ to see if QualCoder is something they can use, or if they are actively using the software.
